What does it mean to be an Ohio State University Master Gardener? It means they have completed 50 hours of course worked and have attempted to do over 50 hours of volunteer time for the residents of Williams County.
The fifty hours of class time begins on Thursday, January 19th starting at 6:00 p.m. at the Williams County Agriculture Services Meeting Room in Bryan. The class will meet every Thursday evening until April 19 and that includes 2 Saturday meetings. Upon completion of the course participants will complete and pass an open book final examination.
Training topics include: Basic Botany and Plant Physiology, Soils and Fertilizers, Basic Plant Pathology, Basic Entomology, House Plants, Plant Propagation, Home Lawn, Herbaceous Perennials, Annual Bulbs, Woody Ornamentals, Landscape Maintenance, Backyard Vegetable and Herb Production, Backyard Fruit Production, Backyard Wildlife Management and Working with the Public/Communication Skills.
Participants wanting the title of OSU Extension Master Gardener will need to work on completing 50 hours of volunteer time. Participants are welcome to take the course just to gain more information about gardening.
Volunteer time includes working on community flower gardens, talk to service organizations about different gardening concerns, or answer questions that come into the office. By having the OSU Extension Master Gardener title it entitled participants to addition education opportunities at either at campuses Columbus or Wooster, plus other opportunities around the state of Ohio.
